Castagnole: air fried Carnivals sweets

Castagnole: air fried Carnivals sweets. It is known that carnival desserts are almost all fried and, in this period, people tend to consume a lot of them. So if we still want to enjoy these sweets, without consuming too many fried foods, we can also cook someone in an alternative way, for example in an air fryer. Certainly the result in consistency will not be exactly the same, but these sweets will still be delicious and perfect for healthier snacks.

To cook them I used my VIVO Air Frier 5.5 liter air fryer, which allows good air circulation and very fast cooking. It is also very spacious inside, but at the same time quite small overall size and takes up much less space than my previous deep fryer of the same internal capacity. With the Vivo Air Frier these sweets will be ready in just 8 minutes of cooking. With other air fryers the times are usually between 8 and 10 minutes, depending on the power.

Ingredients:

  • 300g flour 00
  • 2 eggs
  • 70ml seed oil
  • 2 tablespoons aniseed liqueur
  • 80g sugar
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 1 sachet of vanilla yeast for desserts
  • Lemon zest (optional)

Directions:

  1. Start by pouring the flour into a bowl, then the sugar, eggs, seed oil, liqueur, salt and mix initially with a fork. If you like the lemon flavor, you can also add some zest at this stage.
  2. Then add the baking powder and continue to mix and then knead with your hands, until you get a compact dough.
  3. Wrap it with cling film and let it rest in the refrigerator for half an hour.
  4. Then take it again and cut into balls of about 20g each, making them well round. You should get about 30.
  5. Preheat the air fryer for 3 minutes at 200°C so that it is very hot. Then place about 10 damselfish in the basket at a time and start it for 8-10 minutes always at 200°C, spraying with oil both at the beginning and halfway through cooking.
  6. As soon as they are golden brown, pour into a container with sugar and, if desired, some cake decorations. Do this right away, as the sugar only sticks while they are still very hot. To make them even more delicious, you can decorate with a few strands of honey and add sweet decorations afterwards, so that they adhere better.
